Mens Celtic Rings
The Three Most Popular Designs Of Mens Celtic Rings
Originally kings and noble men were the only men to wear rings, and then it was a sign of their wealth and status. Now a man will usually wear a ring for more personal reasons, such as a wedding ring.
When the trend started, a mans wedding ring was usually a simple plain gold band. Over time people have started to choose wedding bands which have more meaning.
The celtic jewelry is full of symbolism and for this reason the mens celtic rings are a popular choice for a wedding band.
Although there are many different types of mens celtic rings, there are three which are the most popular choice for a wedding band.
1. The Claddagh ring. This is a popular choice for a wedding ring because of the story behind the first Claddagh ring. It is believed that Robert Joyce was captured by mediteranean pirates when being sent to the West Indies as a slave and was sold to a Moorish goldsmith. This goldsmith soon realised how talented Joyce was and taught him his trade. When the slaves were freed in 1689, Joyce returned to his home town and found that his sweetheart had waited for him. Joyce made her a ring, this was the first Claddagh ring. It has the two hands of friendship, the heart of enduring love and the heart is wearing a crown to show that love will always reign. These symbols can either be formed from the band or they can be engraved into the band for a more discreet look.
2. The Celtic Warrior Shield. This is a design inspired by the Ardagh Chalice. This is a chalice which was found by two men digging for potatoes. The chalice is believed to have been made in the late eighth or early ninth century. The chalice contains silver, bronze and gold and is decorated with hugely intricate patterns.
3. The Weave and Knot Pattern rings. These are popular wedding rings because of their simplicity. The pattern is the same all the way around the band and is either two lines woven together or it is variation on the traditional celtic knot design.
As you can see, the symbolism and beauty of both the womens and mens celtic rings make them perfect for wedding bands. Many women will choose a simpler band an they will probably already wear an engagement ring and may later be hoping for an eternity ring.
